    I don't know a darn about Macs, but I'd be surprised if the laptop
comes with the SCSI connector you'll need.  Does it have firewire?  If
so, then the only scanners will be the new Nikons (... available
May-June ...).  Will the laptop have a graphics card capable of
driving a CRT at the resolution you want??
