You don't need a good SCSI card unless you want to hang disks or other 
demanding stuff off it, and in that case a 2nd cheap card for the scanner 
may be a better idea anyhow to avoid complexity with set-up and cabling. A 
crummy cheap SCSI card will be just as fast with any filmscanner, as the 
scanner itself is the bottleneck. Adaptec 1904CD should be about $30US and 
work well with every FS I've tried.
