On my LS-4000 scanning Provia 400F slides I usually end up at gamma 2.4, with a 
brightness of 1.3 or so (white point 0.001).  The histograms look fine when I 
get into Photoshop.  I wonder if the physical film type, or maybe the media 
type and color balance settings change the gamma and brightnes requirements?

Usually use a gamma of 2.2 here in Vuescan, but I remember Mikael Risdael 
suggesting a lower figure could improve results.
