Bernie,
There
are two issues here.
Reflections – There can appear a shadow along the sides of the
film which, I think, a reflection from the plastic side rails of the cover.
That is the supposition at the moment. I will be looking at it closer this
evening. There are several possible solutions to dull up the plastic if that is
the cause.
Actual Imaging size – The aperture of the middle part of the
holder is slightly narrower than Nikons and you miss an ever so slight sliver
of information. There was concern that narrowing the shelf the film rides on
would cause slightly bowed film to be difficult to position while securing the
cover. Is that actually the case? I do not know but will know soon. I plan to
machine the sides and see the effect. I personally am not going to do it but it
will be done very soon.
While
we have been aware of this for some time it has not been major or for that
matter even minor issue with 99% of customers. Yes some have mentioned it and
yes one or two that I know have not purchased the unit for that reason but the
VERY vast majority did not consider it of any special importance. That being
said we will look into the issue and see what we can do.
Regards
David

Hemingway: SS120 Reflections at scan borders
David,
could
you contribute something to the debate about reflexions on the borders of the
SS120 scans that some persons have on their scanners?
Could
you tell sth about
1. what
causes this problem
2. why
it seems to accur on some machines but not on others?
3. Is
there anything that can be done about it? Could re-designed film carriers avoid
that problem? Is this planned then?
I´d
appreciate to hear something by the people who built the machine.
Thank
you in advance,
Bernhard
