IME the Adaptec cards are the best but I have used a couple of cheapo's with
no problem. A month or so ago there were some new cheapo's on ebay for well
less than $50

IMO this is making life needlessly hard. Adding a cheap, common,
crummy PCMCIA SCSI card would increase speed and choice, and VS would work.
PCMCIA is probably no more scary to sort out than USB on Linux :)
