You will be able to scan right out of the box with Polacolor from Polaroid.
I'd use that to start with and get a feel for things. Next, spend the $40
for Vuescan and I'll guaranty that you will ; (a) get great scans with very
little effort and (b) get your money's worth.
If you want to waste a lot of time getting bogged down with a overly
complicated, finicky, difficult to use software program whose updates cost
an arm and a leg for every change that is made; boot up Silverfast.
Oh yeah, when you buy Vuescan, you'll get an update a week! FOR FREE!
The choice is yours. I bought Vuescan three months after I got my SS4000 (
14 months ago ) and I have scanned hundreds of slides and negs since then;
with very little effort!
