One disadvantage of the PNG format, as far as I can tell, is that you can't
embed an ICC profile in a PNG file. Or is there some way to do so? The
couple of color-managed apps that I've tried it with won't let me do it.

But do bear in mind:
- if space is your primary concern, a high quality JPG will probably be
fine, and gives much smaller file sizes. PNG files only give a moderate
reduction from a compressed TIF..
- I have found PNG to be *annoyingly* slow to load/save in most graphics
programs, although I don't have a speed demon PC..
- Older graphics editors/viewers may not support it
