Agreed, be sure to do the standard de-install before installing a new
version. As I remember the installer stops if it finds another version
installed.

Almost certainly not. With previous versions it was very advisable to
remove all traces before upgrading, by uninstalling. Backward compatibility
with older scanners (except the ancient 35LE AFAICR) has been a feature of
previous releases.
