I have always been led to believe Plextors were the best.
When I with the vendor who actually made TDK drives - I was told Plextor. I
already suspected this as the depth of the equivalent (and the other
dimensions) was exactly the same to a 1/10th mm. Whether this is true I
don't know but the drives (12W,10RW) performed near identical too. I bought
the TDK because it came with Nero.
There is a good review of the quite cheap 24W speed Liteon unit at
http://www.storagereview.com/ . It also mentions that Dell uses them - so I
don't think they will be too unreliable.

Plextors are usually supposed to be very good. Strange.
Otherwise, TDK makes a good IDE one and Yamahas are also good.
