Use the Curves dialog box, lay down two points marking
off the midtone range you're adjusting, and steepen
the curve slightly, which steepens the contrast. The
curve should be S-shaped when you're done. Keep an eye
on the rest of the image and make further , more
subtle tweaks as necessary to the highlight and shadow
portions of the curve.
