Philip,
If your friend has software on disks it is VERY old and may not work on the
new computer. Over the years Polaroid has used three venders for film
recorder software. The third and current vendor is Graphx and their product
was never distributed on floppy. I can be purchased from a Polaroid dealer
or directly from Polaroid. It is postscript based and is not inexpensive but
it is excellent.
The older of the two versions distributed on floppy was published by GCC and
the newer version was written by a company in Australia. It has a queuing
program called SiPa. Of the two I thing this would have the most success to
run. There is an upgrade to it on the Polaroid web site.
The various suggestions you have received regarding copying the floppies to
a CD may work.
In the film recorder business all the software is extra cost because they
are rasterization applications not drivers. Neither the Windows or Mac
operating system have the power to effectively RIP images the size needed
for film, usually 35mm slides. For example if you wanted the windows GDI to
rip a 4K slide it would take in excess of 30 minutes while these specialized
application will do it in less than 30 seconds.
I think the problem your friend has is not related to Polaroid not having a
solution but rather he not wanting to spend the $$$ for the solution :)
David

Slightly OT but can anyone offer a solution to the following.
My colleague has a Polaroid film recorder that has the driver software on
several floppies. He has recently upgraded to a G4 Mac without a Floppy
drive. He copied the disks onto a CDR to install his recorder on the G4.
Unfortunately the software install insists after starting to ask for the
disk 2 etc. I have on my PC been able to point the install in Windows to the
disk 2, 3 etc when asked but my colleague seems to be stuck. There is no
software on the net for his machine at Polaroid.com. So far his contact with
Polaroid has been unsuccessful.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
