[filmscanners] Re: LS-8000ED on Windows XP
I'm running XP pro, so I have no idea on the 'home' version, sorry.
The drivers that come with the scanner are on the CD, but the
interface/twain software, Nikon Scan, is not the appropriate version for XP.
So you have to download the 3.2.1 version from Nikontech.
I'm running 640MB of RAM, and have no problems with +250MB files, but I
usually work in the 70~90MB range. Also, FWIW, I'm using PS6.0.1.
It is a very reliable and hardy set-up once you get it figured out and
running. I migrated up from ME [!] and having gone from a crash-a-day [w/ME]
to running for weeks on end with out a hick-up has been refreshing!

I don't see any mention of drivers or anything with the scanner software.
Does installing Nikon Scan install any necessary drivers, or are no drivers
needed with FireWire devices, or how does that work?
Also, will any version of XP do, or does it have to be the pricey
professional version or something like that? I want to get the cheapest
possible PC (except for a truckload of RAM), and the cheapest ones often
come with the "family version" of XP, whatever that is. Would that still
work for the scanner? I'm thinking of getting 1 GB to start, and if there
is room for expansion on the machine and I need more, maybe I can add more
later.
