How to 'shoot the Messenger':
Enter this in the Start Menu's Run dialog exactly as typed and all on
one line:
%windir%\System32\RunDll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
If for some exotic reason that doesn't work then copy the following
lines into a file:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client]
"PreventAutoRun"=dword:00000001
"PreventRun"=dword:00000001
"DisableCollaborationApps"=dword:00000001
"DisableFiletransfer"=dword:00000001
"DisablePC2PCAudio"=dword:00000001
"DisablePC2Phone"=dword:00000001
"DisableVideo"=dword:00000001
"PreventAutoUpdate"=dword:00000001
"PreventBackgroundDownload"=dword:00000001
"PreventConsumerVersion"=dword:00000001
Name the file ShootTheMessenger.reg (or whatever as long as it has the
.reg extension).
Double-click it. If neither of these two hacks does the trick then the
case is more serious than an ordinary PC guru can solve. You'll need
candles, holy water and a priest to get rid of Messenger;-)
