The symptom I've seen of a dirty mirror on a LS-2000 is a sort of mystic
glow around everything, particularly bright areas in the image.  It happens
so slowly that you don't notice it for a long time; then one day it dawns on
you that the scans are a lot more hazy than they used to be.  The first time
I discovered this there was quite a thick layer of dust on the mirror.
Cleaning it carefully with a moistened Q-tip or lens tissue restored it to
new condition.
