The upper limits of dpi in a scanner are the same for all film formats, not
just 35mm, because all films use the same emulsions.  So there's no point in
scanning a MF slide at 6000 dpi if you are scanning 35mm at 4000 dpi, as the
MF slide won't provide any better resolution on a film-area basis.  The MF
gains because there is more negative, not because the emulsion can carry any
higher density of information.
