I think the current weakest link in film photography, assuming that one
shoots with a tripod and possibly mirror lock-up, is the film itself.  The
resolution limit is pretty much imposed by what the film will hold; only a
few films (such as Tech Pan, in a class by itself) will really give a good
scanner or lens a run for the money.  Slide films aren't really any worse
than color negative films; they both could be better.  I keep hoping for
those magic new films that are 10 times more sensitive and/or 10 times
higher in resolution than the current breed.
