It appears you are hung up on the term "signal", as opposed to
"information". Does a measurement of 2.34V contain any information, in and
of it self? Well, yes it does. The scanner measures the INFORMATION
content of the film, and of that information is relative position, and
intensity. Each measurement DOES contain information in and of it self.
AND each of the measurements from a film scanner CCD sensor array IS a DC
measurement, period.
