[filmscanners] Re: Image archiving and managing software
Ummm, what your after wont come cheap. Fotoware provide lots of software
systems for this, but they are VERY expensive
You would need
FotoWeb
Index Manager (Includes Fotostation Pro)
Both of these have a negotiated price tag based on your requirements,
FotoWeb requires a Windows based server system using ASP.
I think you should contact your local Fotostation Re-Seller or contact the
Uk base at www.fotoware.co.uk
Hope that help.

Subject: [filmscanners] Re: Image archiving and managing software
I am trying to decide between Fotostation and Cumulus from Canto
www.canto.com
One thing is very important to me: I have 16.000 scans in four different
versions, i.e. 4000ppi, 2000ppi and 1000ppi and jpegs.
At some stage, I would want to publish 2 or 3 different but connected
searchable, websites, with different access and downloading rights.
So, my problem is: Which program will allow me just export/import all the
coded info(categories, keywords, captions copyright/by line etc) to
automatically create another "catalog" (database) from an identical folder
structure containing the same photos in a different version? Thus avoiding
having to type in all the info again?
Have you tried this with FotoStation, James?
Greetings from Preben (W2K)

I use Fotostation Pro V4.5 if you have 10000`s of images then you can add
index manager to it, Fotostation Pro is around 500 UK Pounds, its baby
sister FotoStation 4.5 is also available, See
www.fotostation.com
www.fotoware.com
Both are superb programs for storage and offer a whole host of functions.

Subject: [filmscanners] Image archiving and managing software
Hi all.
After I finally established by image processing and archiving PC system,
it's time to get some nice and useful image archiving and managing software
to keep track of my image database and easily manageable archive.
I would be grateful to anyone advising on this point.
My system consist of:
PC running Win2000 Pro.
Scanners: Nikon LS40.
Image scanning software - NikonScan ver 3.1.2 used as TWAIN through PS7.
Image editing software - PS7.
The strategy I was considering as follows:
1. All archiving-worth images are stored in JPEG format (after PS tweaking
is necessary and resizing). The file size - up to 200k per image.
2. High-quality images from above, potentially intended for future printing
and enlargement -
scanned at 12 bit/pixel resolution (up to ~60 MB file) tweaked in PS (if
necessary)
while keeping track of PS editing done to this particular image (for
reversibility if
if possible).
Images are stored as either TIFF 16 bit or PSD files.
The achieve will be stored on local HDDs, back up on remote (USB2.0
accessible) HDD and CDs.
Your comments are welcome.
Regards,
Alex Z
