[filmscanners] Re: Nikon Coolscan 4000 'v' Flextight P2

In my test multi-scanning did extend reach into the extreme shadows in my
tests a bit (only necessary for chromes however), and the 2x setting isn't
too much of a performance hit (time) and gives most of the benefit. Shadows
posterize when exporting 8 bit files, so use 14 bit and downsample later in
Photoshop.

Also, negs do not normally require the fine scan mode, so neg scanning can
go faster. Chromes always need fine mode to avoid banding. Saving settings
for various scan scenarios and set up will go faster.

If you run into focus problems use the auto focus button to force focus on a
spot near frame center with a contrasty edge or area of contrasty texture.

3) In my experience, and to my eyes, multi-scanning makes no difference to
the noise levels in any density of shadows. Perhaps move multi-scanning down
your priorites of things to test.
