[filmscanners] RE: Nikon Coolscan

>If you have a Nikon Coolscan, why would you need Genuine Fractals at all?

I am not really sure what you are asking. Do you know what Genuine Fractals
is? I can only surmise that the grounds for your question is either you do
not know what it does or Nikon Coolscan, which I know nothing about, does an
equivalent operation to that carried out by Genuine Fractals, which I truely
doubt.

But, however, that is really not the point. The point is that Nikon
evidently has bundled GF with its scanners and camera. Some are under the
impression that the bundled version of GF is or was a "Light" version or
otherwise crippled rather than a full version. I was merely suggesting that
what they got was a full version of the standard edition of GF (Genuine
Fractals 2.5) which is an RGB only edition but not a crippled edition like
the "Demo" version or "Light Edition" of GF; moreover, I pointed out that
the PrintPro Edition which is CYMK and CIE-Lab capable is an altogether
different edition of the program aimed at Professional Prepress people,
which LizartdTech is pushing currently. The upgrade coupon was from a full
version of the standard RGB edition of GF to a full version of the PrintPro
RGB/CYMK/CIE-Lab edition of GF. In the post that you responded to, I
acknowledged that upon a recent visit to the Lizardtech site I discovered
that I was in error when I suggested that the GF Light Edition was not on
being sold but only available as part of a software bundle for hardware; it
seems that they are actually selling the Light RGB edition of GF 2.5. Hence
I corrected myself on this point in the message you responded to.

I do not recall anyone in this or earlier messages on the thread talking
about the use of the program and if it could or should be used as a
substitute for Nikon Coolscan. Hence, I am lost as to the reason behind
your question and why you would ask it here and now.
