[filmscanners] RE: IV ED dynamic range
Well, I learnt not to believe this manufacturer's claims.
Their numbers seldom have something to do with the reality.
As far as I remember, theoretical dynamic range's maximum is 4.0 which is
ideal, so over that it is just a dream (until I don't understand this issue
at all).
Now, the 3.6 sounds to be very high already and would certainly deliver
excellent results rendering much more details then I got, is I suspect the
real number is much lower.
And if this is the case, I have no doubt LS4000's 4.2 is gimmick as well.
Regards,
Alex Z

Alex,
According to Nikon's website, the LS400 has a Density Range of 4.2, whereas
the IV ED has a Density Range of 3.6.

Thanks for suggestion, but first of all I don't use Vuescan (tried it a
while ago, didn't like neither the result nor the interface).
Besides of that, I doubt there might be really discernable difference in
this manner between the IV ED and LS4000. Running both at 8 bit mode
(regular scan, no multisampling) both should produce similar results (I
don't think resolution differences can do something in regard of dynamic
range).
Am I wrong ?
