Oh, Anthony...

Firmware CAN be put in memory that IS NOT erasable, such as embedded in an
IC, or in, what's called a "mask programmed PROM" or in OTP (One Time
Programmable) microprocessors...to name a few.  All these are NOT erasable.

I believe a more succinct definition is "firmware is software that is
embedded in hardware", and is not dynamically loaded from a hard disk etc.
The BIOS in your computer is considered "firmware".
