[filmscanners] RE: Slightly, somewhat OT
Howard, I'm afraid you have been lost.
The issue discussed doesn't deal with HDD types and their connectivity to
the system, but just backup procedure and software used for this purpose.
Usually people backup their system on some sort of independent drives or
media (as CD, DVD, tape and others) rather then on additional HDD hooked to
their system permanently (inside the PC).
I don't familiar with the software you mentioned, but the common one is
Ghost used commercially by many companies to or perhaps the Automated System
Backup if one use XP and Bob suggested.
On the other hand, you can duplicate the HDD image you have on some
independent disk as well and just keep it in the safe place just for the
case your main drive will fail.
However, I wouldn't chose this approach for myself. I would rather backup
the system to either CD/DVD or perhaps taped media but would utilize the
additional HDD for everyday data storage
(say as my image bank backup).
Regards,
Alex Z

I am a little confused by the conversation. If I buy a backup HD as big as,
or bigger, than the master and use a program like PowerQuest Drive
Image...will I not get a full backup of everything on the drive including
the
OS , registry, programs, files etc?
