[filmscanners] RE: Thumbnails looking flat
The typical web browser will assume your monitor profile, not sRGB. I
suppose it's possible that your monitor has a smaller gamut than sRGB, which
would cause the gamut to be compressed a little. The easy way to tell is to
Assign your monitor profile to the sRGB image in Photoshop, and see if that
makes it duller.
There's no good reason to use GIF for thumbnails.
