All is not lost.  Mitsui Gold CD-Rs are very much available at about $.60
each, and have very long rated lives.

Not the Kodak ones apparently - in fact Kodak ask you to test their discs
against other inferior discs by doing just that:

"Conduct Your Own Test
During hot, sunny weather, record a disc from any competitor and place it
label side down on your car's dashboard. Do the same with a Kodak Disc. Now
read or play each disc as the days go by-and you could be surprised by the
results."
