I don't know what's up in the UK, but I just heard here (Canada) that
due to the price drops and the failure rates, many "brand name"
harddrives are going to have 1 year or 2 year warranties, rather than
3-5 years.
Almost everyone I know who owns a 7400 rpm or faster drive has had to
get a replacement under warranty. I understand they are now going to
"liquid bearings" to try to resolve these problems.
