I think he meant the "profession" of engineering, as in mechanical
engineering, electronic engineering, aerodynamic engineering, chemical
engineering. What people do while sitting at recording consoles (or, for
that matter, driving a train) doesn't involve a huge body of technical
knowledge, so that's engineering in a different sense of the word.
The Mac, having got there first, is very popular not only among graphic
artists but among music and sound folks, and maybe video people as well.
