Differences are a lot smaller than among printers or monitors,IME. I've not
seen samples from same models that have any significant differences unless
the unit is faulty, except among older and low-end devices where there is
noticeable variation. And if you are that picky, such scanners have faults
which aren't going to  be remedied merely by profiling. More expensive
units have least divergence so need custom profiles less, and that is
pretty much my experience with monitors too.

A far more significant problem is how accurate or helpful the canned
profile is, especially when coupled with software which isn't all it might
be.
