Sorry, simply inverting a positive scanned as a negative will produce real
color adjustment problems. Either of the 3rd party scanner drivers will scan
positive strips though.

Three suggestions:
1. Don't plan on scanning prints or mounted slides. The mechanical movement
required to change modes is prone to alignment problems.
2. This scanner is certainly best at scanning negatives, but you can scan
unmounted slides (or positive film). If the software doesn't specifically
address scanning unmounted slide film, just scan as negative and invert in
your image editor.
3. http://www.yapscu.com/ or http://www.hamrick.com/ for better software.

Subject: [filmscanners] Hello/ routine question
Hello Folks,
I have recently subscribed to the list and would like to
introduce myself. I am Bill Hilburn, and I live in Stockton,
Ca. which is about 100 miles due east of San Francisco, and
50 miles south of Sacramento. I have been a photographer for
over 30 years, shot as a pro for a time, and now shoot for
recreation.
Now for a question you must get frequently. I have been
given a Hewlett Packard C5100A photo scanner by the wife of
a deceased friend. It seems that he bought the scanner and
opened the box, then got distracted by chores and never got
around to installing it. My situation is that I don't know a
thing about scanners. I am comfortable with computers, I
build my own, and refurbish older machines for charity
organizations. I am sure installation will be a cinch, but
where to go from there is a wonder.
Is there a FAQ or site that explains the basics of
scanning? Or, is there a good book that you would recommend?
Information is one of the staffs of life, and I just don't
have much with the pamphlets that came with the unit. Any
help would be a help.
Thanks.
Bill
