[filmscanners] rebuild your scanner and get better results (revisited)

When this thread first surfaced last year, I didn't have a scanner.  Now that I 
have a Minolta Elite, I thought I might try diffusing the light source to see 
what effect (if any) that had.  Unfortunately, the link below seems to need a 
password.  Is there anywhere else which details what people have tried?
