I think that you may have to do a complete reinstall of the operating
system.
When you quote:

This maybe a virus which is doing the rounds through email spam. Virus
checkers don't pick it up. There were a couple of XP patches but not 10.
SP1 addressed the security issues. Are you downloading the XP patches
directly from Microsoft site?

One issue that Adobe PShop quotes is that you apply fixed virtual ram at
twice the amount of physical ram - that was in the readme file
somewhere. I'm not sure if that's still with PS7.
There was one problem that I had with PS5 or 6 was that it locked in w98
or ME not sure now which on my old PII 350 with 384M ram with scratch
disk - after it run for some time just locked up. So only had the OS
and PShop loaded no problem then loaded a screen saver and it started to
lockup again. I have never run a screen saver again.
Have never come across these errors even on my older computers with
XP./PS6 and have been on XP since its inception - cause 98se and ME were
giving me hell. Applying the service pack did stabilize XP and i've been
running now over seven months without rebuild. (the rebuilds were my
software/scanner ram (hardware) issues and nothing to do with the
operating system.)
