Looking at the main Japanese site for the new Dimage Scan Elite 5400
(http://www.dimage.minolta.com/elite5400/index.html) I noticed that the new
"grain disolver" feature is hardware based. This would explain why it only
comes with ICE, not ICE3 (which contains GEM.)
It actually sounds that they have listened to the complaints that the light
source on earlier Dimage modes was too colimated (and accentuated grain) and
have now inserted a diffuser in the light path. It will be interesting to see
whether the results live up to the advertising hype!
