This is/was very unclear from the Polaroid web site; but I will take your
words for it that it does its medium format scans at 4000 dpi as well.

As for the usefulness of 4000 dpi for medium format scans, I would say that
I would agree with that for the most part.  It does have one possible
advantage other than for extreme enlargements and extreme cropping which is
that it gives one a lot of information to work with in Photoshop before
downsampling and allows for the downsampling process in wither Photoshop or
the printer to have a larger universe of data to select from in doing the
downsampling which might provide for a better, smoother downsample with more
details in high light and shadows or tonal gradations as a possibility.

However, I'm not sure it is needed for making 11 x 14" prints.  Epson
printers really cannot resolve much beyond 400 dpi in any meaningful
way.  A 4000 dpi scan of a 6x7cm film frame makes about a 2.35" x 2.75"
film frame or 9400 by 11000 pixel scan.  Without cropping, other than
for size ratio, that would be a resolution of about 785 dpi which is
overkill by double of the best resolution the Epsons can extract
information from.
