I thought that as well so I raised it with Wolf Faust (who produces seperate
IT8 targets for Ektachrome, Velvia and Sensia/Astia/Provia film types). I
don't have a copy of his reply here but, as far as I can remember, he stated
that scanners see colour differently from the human eye and the different slide
film types have differing chemistry. So, while we might perceive the colour on
2 different types of IT8 targets as the same, a scanner might render them quite
differently. There is, of course, also the fact that different film types have
different gamuts and density.
I haven't got any IT8 targets yet so I can't vouch for any of this!
