The Microtek ScanMaker 8700 flatbed scanner has a glass, slide-in
tray especially for scanning 8x10 transparencies. On the other hand
I have measured its Dmax at less than 2.3 and your negatives must
certainly have more than that.
Perhaps you can find in your area a service bureau that has one of
the high-end flatbed scanners such as the Creo Eversharp, Aztek
Plateau, or even just one of the higher end ScanMakers that's built
around the same chassis as my 8700.
