I have the Epson 4870, as far as I know the guts are the same in the F-3200
scanner and image quality should be similar. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

No. The guts are the same as the 32xx flatbed scanners: same 1600 x 2
(offset) CCD, same lens, no IR (but software dust/scratch removal). The 4870
is higher res + IR.

There apparently is glass in the optical path between the film and the lens
in the F-3200, so I doubt it will match 4870 performance. (I saw one test
using Kami fluid with the Epson 2450, and it really helped. Maybe someone
could do that with a 4870.)
