[filmscanners] RE: Scanning Overexposed Slides

Al Bond wrote: "Unfortunately, as I am still using PS6, I don't have the
luxury of the Shadow/Highlight tool in PS CS. Because the images need a lot
of adjustment, it really has to be done in 16 bit so I am limited to the 16
bit tools in PS6."

Dan Margulis has been writing about manual methods of color-correction
similar to Shadow/Highlight in PSCS but using luminosity blends and blurs
instead of the S/H sub-routines. An article in the Sept. Issue of Electronic
Publishing covers some of the techniques, and the current issue has more.

(May require registration but well worth it.)

As to the need for 16-bit edits, if you can provide Dan with any real-world
color photo image that shows any benefit when edited in 16-bit vs. 8-bit,
there are several guys on the Applied Color Theory discussion group that
will be forever in your debt.
