In fact, I also consider the built-in calibration facility as nice to have,
the most important features are image quality, color reproduction and

Last I checked, the LaCie builtin calibration only worked with Macs.  I'd
love to be wrong as my noble trinitron is on its last legs and I'm shopping
too.

Barco has a good reputation for color accuracy, but last I looked they
couldn't handle super high resolutions.

As to profiling, don't reject a monitor because it doesn't have built-in
calibration. Aftermarket calibration works fine.

You should also be careful about the video card you buy. Personally, I like
the Matrox ones, because they have excellent, glitch-free DACs, and support
high resolutions at high scan rates.
