There are definitely limitations. As a matter of fact, one of the not
simple problems is designing heavy lead curtains that can be pulled up
and pushed down fast enough to achieve acceptable throughput of
suitcases. The bigger the aperture of the scanner the more effort it
takes to design that mechanism.
