After checking the Lizardtech web site (after posting my message to you of
course), I find it made me out to be a lier of sorts. There is a Genuine
Fractal Light 2.0 which is an RGB only and will handle files of a restricted
size limit which they are selling. Previously, this edition was only
bundled with some peripherals and not for sale. Then they started pushing
the higher priced PrintPro Edition, once LizardTech bought the product from
Altamira, and stopped bundling the Light Edition, replaceing it with the
standard edition and a coupon like you mentioned. If this is you case, then
both the GF 2.5 and the GF PrintPro are full versions of their respective
editions (the key limitation being that the former is RGB capable only while
the PrintPro is also CYMK and CIE-Lab capable). Personally, unless one is a
prepress professional or someone who sends files to such people, I see no
need for CYMK and CIE-Lab capability or reason for the extra expense of
PrintPro.

The coupon states it will upgrade to Genuine Fractals PrintPro which
supports CMYK and CIE-Lab support.

Neither am I sure what Dorothy Cutter means.

But I am also not sure what you, Brian, means by "full" version.

This indicates to me that they gave you the RGB version of GF 2.5 with a
coupon to upgrade to the pre-press edition Genuine Fractals Print Pro for
$99 from the Genuine Fractals 2.5.
Lizardtech makes three (3) different full editions (versions) of the Genuine
Fractals program. One, the original Genuine Fractals (now in version 2.5),
is RGB only capable edition; a second edition is Genuine Fractals PagePro XT
edition which is for use with QuarkXpress; and the third is Genuine Fractals
PrintPro which is RGB, CIE-lab and CYMK capable and directed to pre-press
professionals or work directed to offset presses. None of these three
editions (versions) are what one would call "light" versions, although in
the past a "light" version of the original edition (Genuine Fractals) which
was crippled in several ways including a limitation on the size of file it
would process was bundled with some scanners and digital cameras.

Not sure what you mean by the 'full' version of Genuine Fractals. Just to
let you know my experience, I purchased my Coolscan 4000 from a local
reputable dealer (one which is frequently visited by the local Nikon rep)
and the version of Genuine Fractals that was included in my package was also
not the 'full' version. It was a version that worked in RGB mode but not
CMYK mode. The package included a coupon to upgrade to the 'full' package
for $99.

Subject: [filmscanners] Nikon Coolscan
Hi! I just bought a Nikon Coolscan 4000 off the net. I was assured
they were an authorized dealer and it had a US warranty. The scanner
arrived without the warranty and missing some things like the full
version of Genuine Fractals that comes packaged with the scanner. There
also was no packing list so I don't know what should have been there. I
am sending it back but what guarantees do I have that it will not
happen again. I am just assuming that there should have been a packing
list. Does anyone who has this scanner remember what is supposed to
come with it and can you comment on the warranty? Dorothy
