There are many reasons. On of them is producing images for webpages
including thumbnails.
I trust PS more then the printer driver because I know what is happening in
PS but not what is happening in the printer driver.
You reduce the amount of data you send to the driver.
Storage. I prefer to work on higher resolution images even when later on I
store some of them at only half the resolution.
