[filmscanners] Compression
(back after a long layoff)
This has been mulled over severally on this
list. Ive not been monitoring what has been
happening w.r.t image formats for nearly 18
months - but seem to remember a new JPEG
(JP2000) from then.
I personally scan, keep uncompressed archive
copy, and create a small, medium and large
JPG for viewing.
Does anyone know of current tools that implement
better lossless or lossy compression schemes?
Saving space on the enormous archive scans would
be a blessing, but Im actually interested in
adding to my current viewing suite (hand coded perl)
by having a fullsize copy in some format that people
can zoom in/out/chop/crop to their tastes. Something
better than JPG might help here ...
