I use both VueScan and Nikon Scan. With Mac OS 9, switching between them
required a reboot, after twiddling extensions. That's because VueScan
cannot access the LS-4000 if the Nikon FireWire drivers are loaded.

So I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this conflict apparently does
not exist with the OS X versions of these programs. I have been switching
between Nikon Scan 3.1.3 and VueScanX 7.5.28, without rebooting, and (so
far) without any problems. Although I am not yet been brave enough to run
both at the same time.
